Fraxel® Dual Laser Resurfacing.

Fraxel® Dual is a fractional non-ablative laser used to improve tone, texture, sun damage, fine lines, acne scars, and overall skin radiance. Two wavelengths allow treatment to be customized for more superficial pigmentation concerns or deeper resurfacing needs.

The fractional approach treats a portion of the skin at a time while leaving surrounding tissue intact to support healing.

Best for

  • Sun damage
  • Brown spots
  • Rough texture
  • Acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Crepey skin

What it treats

A versatile, multi-concern resurfacing tool

Fraxel® Dual is designed to address a broad range of skin quality concerns at once. Because it uses two wavelengths, your treatment plan can be tailored to focus on superficial pigmentation, deeper textural irregularities, or a combination of both within the same session.

  • Sun damage and brown spots
  • Rough, uneven texture
  • Acne scars and pitted scarring
  • Fine lines and early crepiness
  • Dullness and overall radiance
  • Treatable on face, neck, chest, and hands

How it works

Fractional, non-ablative precision

The fractional approach treats only a portion of the skin at a time — leaving microscopic columns of untreated tissue between treated zones. This intact surrounding tissue acts as a healing scaffold, supporting faster recovery while the laser stimulates new collagen and replaces damaged pigment cells.

Two wavelengths (1550 nm and 1927 nm) can be combined or used independently, letting Dr. Rose calibrate intensity and depth to your specific skin and goals.

Tailored to you

Dr. Rose customizes settings session by session — gentler protocols for pigment-focused goals, deeper passes for textural resurfacing.

What to expect

Your session & recovery

A topical numbing cream is applied for ~45 minutes before treatment. The procedure itself takes 20–30 minutes and patients often describe the sensation as warmth with a light prickling. Immediately after, skin appears pink — similar to a moderate sunburn — for several hours to a day.

Most patients see best results from a series of 3–5 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, with progressive improvement visible over the following months as collagen continues to remodel.

Downtime

Minimal social downtime

Fraxel® Dual is known for being one of the more lifestyle-friendly resurfacing options. Pink, warm skin typically resolves within 24 hours, followed by a few days of fine bronze flaking — comparable to a light sunburn peel — that can usually be concealed with mineral makeup.

Sun protection

Strict SPF 50+ and broad-spectrum sun avoidance for at least two weeks after treatment is essential to protect new skin and lock in pigment results.

Best candidates

Is Fraxel right for you?

Fraxel® Dual is well-suited to adults seeking refinement rather than full resurfacing. The ideal candidate has visible signs of sun damage, textural irregularity, or early aging, and is willing to commit to a multi-session series and diligent post-care.

  • Visible sun damage or brown spots
  • Acne scarring (rolling or boxcar types)
  • Fine lines and early crepey skin
  • Skin tone unevenness or dullness
  • Realistic expectations of gradual change
  • Able to avoid sun exposure for 2+ weeks post-treatment

Not ideal for

Active acne breakouts, recent isotretinoin use, current pregnancy, or patients seeking single-session dramatic resurfacing. A consultation with Dr. Rose will determine your best path forward.

Is Fraxel® Dual painful?

Most patients describe the sensation as warmth with a prickling feeling, especially during the more intense passes. A topical numbing cream is applied for approximately 45 minutes before treatment to keep you comfortable, and cool air is used throughout the session to further reduce sensation. Most patients tolerate treatment well.

How many sessions will I need?

For most concerns, a series of 3 to 5 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart produces the best results. Improvement continues for several months after your final session as collagen continues to remodel. Dr. Rose will recommend a personalized treatment plan during your consultation based on your goals and skin condition.

What is the downtime like?

Skin appears pink and feels warm — similar to a moderate sunburn — for the first 24 hours. This is followed by 2 to 4 days of fine bronze flaking, which can be concealed with mineral makeup. Most patients return to work the next day. Strict sun protection is essential for at least two weeks after treatment.

Can Fraxel® Dual be used on areas other than the face?

Yes. Fraxel® Dual is commonly used on the neck, chest, and hands, which often show signs of sun damage that mirror the face. These off-face areas typically heal more slowly, so treatment intensity and session spacing are adjusted accordingly.

When will I see results?

Many patients see initial improvement in tone and texture within 1 to 2 weeks as the surface refreshes. Deeper collagen remodeling — which addresses fine lines, scars, and overall firmness — continues for 3 to 6 months after your treatment series is complete.

Am I a good candidate for Fraxel® Dual?

Ideal candidates have visible sun damage, fine lines, textural irregularity, or acne scarring, with realistic expectations of gradual improvement across a treatment series. Fraxel® Dual is not recommended during active acne breakouts, recent isotretinoin use, or pregnancy. A consultation with Dr. Rose is the best way to determine candidacy.

How should I prepare for my treatment?

Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, and waxing for at least 5 to 7 days before treatment. Stay diligent with daily sun protection in the weeks leading up to your session — pre-treatment sun exposure can affect pigment results. Arrive with clean, product-free skin on the day of your appointment.

How much does Fraxel® Dual cost?

Pricing depends on the treatment area, session count, and protocol intensity prescribed for your goals. We share transparent pricing during your consultation along with package options for multi-session series. Financing options are available through our care partners.
